Back to School Fair Community Project
2017 Back To School Fair
August 5, 2017 was the day of our 19th annual Back-to-School Fair at Sturgeon Bay High School! This year’s Fair, with over 610 participants, was the largest ever, providing school supplies, new backpacks, school spirit shirts, gym shoes and socks, books for the children’s own libraries, a water bottle and toiletries. Over 100 volunteers and Altrusans staffed the various stations and escorted the children through the Fair. Parents had the opportunity to interact with representatives from the Door County YMCA, the Boys and Girls Club and other area agencies.
The Back-to-School Fair, Altrusa’s largest community service project, is supported by many businesses, service clubs, church and personal donations, as well as various grants. We extend our deepest appreciation to the volunteers from the community, many personal and business financial donors, Dunham's Sports, Friends of the Library, Scaturo's Baking Company, Trattoria Dal Santo, Silent Sports, Midwest Dental, Whispering Pines and Marine Travelift. We are exceptionally grateful for the support of WalMart's management team, the custodial staff at Sturgeon Bay High School and the office staff in each school district who works with us all year to insure the highest impact of this annual Fair.
OUR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS GO ON YEAR ROUND! Please help us to continue to reach our goals by sending a tax-deductible contribution for school supplies to: Altrusa Foundation, P.O. Box 523, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 or visit our Donation page on this website.
2016 Back To School Fair
The 2016 Back to School Fair was held on Saturday, August 13 at Sturgeon Bay High School. We welcomed just under 600 children, grades PreK through 12, and their families, our largest Fair to date! Through our year-round fundraising efforts and the generosity of many area businesses, other non-profit groups and individuals, we were able to provide each child with a backpack, grade-level appropriate school supplies, a school spirit shirt, shoes, socks, underwear, toiletries and free books! We were fortunate to have the help and support of many volunteers from other organizations and the community at large and we are grateful. A huge thank you also goes to Sturgeon Bay High School for allowing us to use their cafeteria and other spaces to run this event.
For many years, Dunham's Sports has supported the Back to School Fair by providing the participating children with a brand new pair of shoes! They partner with us as we prepare for the Fair by ordering plenty of additional shoes to insure that there are lots of sizes and styles for the children to choose from. This year, Dunham's Sports extended their generosity by giving each child a pair of socks to go with their new shoes. They even have extra staff in place the weekend of the Back to School Fair so that each child can be fitted properly for their shoes. We are deeply grateful for their support and the energy and enthusiasm they provide to this important community event. Thank you, Dunham's Sports!
This year, Door County Silent Sports partnered with us to provide brand new, custom fitted bike helmets to the children who attended the Fair. Bike safety is so important and their participation is greatly appreciated!
Special thanks to the following organizations for their generous financial support this year, many of whom have supported this project for many years!
Altrusa International, Church of the Atonement, Door County Community Foundation, Goodwill NCW, Hatco Corp., Lions Club of Egg Harbor, Marine Travelift, Ministry Door County Medical Center, MMG Foundation, Salvation Army, United Way, WalMart Foundation, Women's Fund of Door County.
Additionally, we are very grateful to the many generous individuals, area businesses and churches who supported this year's Back-To-School Fair.
